Japan CCS presented at “PAS 247 International Launch Event”.

On November 17, the “PAS 247 International Launch Event – Driving the Global Standard for Carbon-Abated Electricity: Pathway Toward Net Zero” was held in Taipei, Taiwan (Hosted by: Taipei Representative Office, British Government; Taiwan Institute of Economic Research; Co-hosted by: Taiwan-US CCUS Industry Promotion Alliance). Japan CCS delivered a keynote speech entitled “Messages from Demonstration to Commercial CCS Projects – Findings and Lessons learned from Tomakomai Project.”

PAS 247: To strengthen the contribution of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology to carbon reduction in the power sector, PAS 247 is the world’s first international standard for the calculation of Carbon-Abated Electricity (CAE) from thermal power plants equipped with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facilities developed through close collaboration between Taiwan and the British Standards Institution (BSI). The initial draft structure was developed with broad participation from seven countries, including Japan, as well as major global companies and organizations. This conference is a joint launch event by Taiwan and the UK to maximize the international impact and practical adoption of PAS 247, which will be formally published after over three years of extensive discussions and technical reviews, and to highlight Taiwan’s contribution to CCS-related international standards and cross-border cooperation.
