Japan CCS (JCCS) was founded in May 2008, prior to the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, when a group of major private corporations with expertise in CCS-related fields, including electric power, petroleum, oil development, and engineering, joined forces to answer the Japanese government's call for development of CCS technology. Because JCCS is the world's first privately owned company dedicated to integrated CCS technology, its birth was a global milestone with the potential to energize the fight against climate change worldwide. Japanese technologies, with their renowned attention to detail, are ideally suited to meet the key challenges of fine-tuning, optimizing, and improving the efficiency of CCS constituent technologies and integrated CCS systems. To date JCCS has undertaken a variety of commissioned and grant-supported projects funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in preparation for large-scale demonstration projects planned for the near future.
